Carlsson, the German car tuner and customiser which specialises in Mercedes-Benz model (like Brabus and AMG), has developed what it claims to be the world’s lightest 21-inch wheel. At 10.8 kgs, its latest 1/5 Evo Ultra Light wheel is said to be 40% lighter than any cast 21-inch wheel available today.

The achievement came about by making the density of the material so great that not even traces of air or pores remain in the aluminium. At the same weight load, this allows a smaller wall thickness compared to other rims. The result is a wheel with 40% less unsprung masses than a cast 21-inch wheel.

This advantage will be felt in the car’s car handling as the wheels can respond to steering inputs quicker and bounce is virtually eliminated.

Based on the Evo wheel family, the new version has 5 fine double spokes that emanate from the centre of the wheel to the rim bead. Normally, ultra-light wheels need a lot more spokes in order to perfectly distribute power but the Carlsson engineers achieved the same wheel load values with just five spokes and were even able to maintain the slim character of the struts.

The wheel has a gloss-turned surface with the highly transparent clear varnish. The brushed sides of the spokes form a discreet contrast and emphasise the brilliance of the surface. 20 bolt heads between the spokes give the wheel a dynamic multi-part look.

Prices in Europe start from 1,665 euros (about RM7,850) and the sizes available are 9.0 x 21 and 10.5 x 21 which would be suitable for the Mercedes-Benz S-class (W221), CL-class (C216) and GLK-class (X204).

This one is a beauty. I wonder if the "ah leongs" knowledge is updated on these set of NEW WHEELS? It would look good on any models, forget those Mercs, BMWs.
By the time it reaches our soil, the price could be 3 times more expensive??
I leave that over to you to comment. Get down on it, c'mon!!
